Parents who adhere to these 3 principles, their children become more obedient, becoming “someone else’s child” as time goes on
Respectful treatment of children
There are many parents who like to use their role as adults to command or restrict their children’s behavior. They impose their will and believe that they are always right. Whenever their children express their opinions, they are suppressed and insulted by negative words. If they are cornered in an argument with their children, they will use physical punishment to intimidate them. If their children are wrong, they make them apologize, but when they themselves are wrong, they don’t even say sorry.
Of course, parents have more experience than their children, but that doesn’t mean that children have no voice and their opinions are not worth listening to.
Parents need to respect their children by behaving appropriately, not infringing on their privacy, always being present for their children in their thoughts, emotions, health, and supporting them to make the most sensible choices. Children who are respected by their parents will be more aware of their actions and how they live in order to improve themselves and develop better in the future.
Establish rules early
There is a saying: “Freedom with rules is flexible, freedom without rules is chaotic.” True love for children is not about being lenient, but about restraining them.
Many parents believe that as their children grow up, they will naturally understand certain principles without realizing that if they are not properly guided and their behavior is not corrected, children will make mistakes. Therefore, parents should set rules for their children early on and guide them in their daily lives.
American psychologist William James once said: “Sow an act, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.” But it takes more than a day or two to develop good habits.
That’s why during the preschool years, parents need to pay attention to their child’s habits such as daily routines, work, and social etiquette. Only children who develop good behavior from a young age can benefit from it throughout their lives.
For children aged 0-6, Dr. Montessori suggests three basic principles: Do not harm oneself, do not disturb others, and do not destroy the environment. In addition, there are some other rules:
– No offensive behavior or language.
– Do not take other people’s things.
– Put things back in their proper place.
– For public toys, whoever takes them first gets to use them first, and those who come later have to wait.
– Do not disturb others.
– Apologize when you make a mistake, and have the right to ask others to apologize.
Actions speak louder than words
In the process of educating their children, many parents do not know how to control their own behavior, for example, they don’t let their children watch TV but they themselves are glued to their phones and TVs all day; they can’t control their emotions with their children and behave rudely towards others, but they demand their children to be polite and courteous in front of others.
This inconsistent behavior creates conflicting thoughts in the eyes of children. Children feel that what their parents say is not important, and every request, every command will only make them obedient while feeling resentful. Therefore, parenting becomes ineffective.
Nothing is more convincing than our actions and deeds. Only when we set an example for our children can we expect them to do the right things and live beautifully.
